A fresh 192 GB Rockstar archive is pulling GTA 6 fans into another frenzy, but the most interesting story is not a secret confirmation of the next game’s final map. It is what the material reveals about Rockstar’s discarded ideas, and how little an early render can safely tell us about the finished version of Leonida.

Reports published on September 18 describe a roughly 192 GB archive that has begun circulating online. According to TechPowerUp’s account of reporting from Insider Gaming, this does not appear to be a brand-new intrusion. Instead, the files reportedly trace back to the 2022 Rockstar breach that exposed early GTA 6 gameplay clips, with a larger cache only now spreading beyond a small group.
That distinction matters. A newly discovered folder is not the same thing as a newly developed feature, and an old development build is not a reliable snapshot of what players will receive. Still, the archive is drawing attention because it appears to contain a mixture of Rockstar tools, source material, cut content and early GTA 6 data.
What the archive reportedly shows
The clearest discoveries so far concern GTA 5 rather than GTA 6. Community researchers have reportedly found zone data that appears connected to a canceled Liberty City expansion, with an outline that some observers believe is larger than the Liberty City seen in GTA 4. Other files are said to reference the shelved Agent Trevor single-player project, including mission names, a spaceship location and unused dialogue.
Those details are fascinating because they show the scale of Rockstar’s abandoned ambitions. The studio was apparently considering a far broader post-launch plan for GTA 5 before GTA Online became the commercial priority. They also explain why fans are treating the archive as a window into Rockstar’s design process, not just as a source of GTA 6 screenshots.
Reported archive size: approximately 192 GB
The GTA 6 material is more limited. Dexerto reports that low-quality renders appear to show recognizable Leonida landmarks, including the international airport, a stadium, docks, a cruise terminal and downtown Vice City. The images are reportedly tied to development data from roughly 2020 to 2022, when the map would still have been changing substantially.
Why the Liberty City theory is still only a theory
Fans have quickly connected the updated Liberty City files to the possibility of a future GTA 6 expansion. It is an appealing idea: Rockstar could eventually link two iconic fictional American cities in one evolving game world. But the current evidence does not establish that plan.
The Liberty City data may simply belong to a canceled GTA 5 or GTA Online project. Even if the files are authentic, they do not prove that Rockstar intends to reuse the setting, that the work survived into GTA 6 production, or that it would arrive as downloadable content. The same caution applies to the early Leonida renders. Blank building blocks and rough map outlines can help fans understand geography, but they cannot predict final art direction, interiors, mission routes or gameplay systems.
Rockstar has not publicly authenticated the archive or commented on the latest material. Until that changes, the responsible reading is that this is a potentially valuable historical leak with a small amount of early GTA 6 evidence—not a roadmap for the finished game.
For players, the biggest takeaway may be less glamorous but more revealing: Rockstar prototypes, cuts and rebuilds on a remarkable scale. The Vice City that eventually ships will be the result of years of revision, meaning today’s most exciting discovery could be a discarded idea rather than a hidden promise.
