GTA 6 PC System Requirements: Minimum, Recommended and Ideal Specifications

Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be one of the most demanding open-world games ever released on PC. However, there is an important detail that players should understand before upgrading their computers: Rockstar Games has not yet published official PC system requirements for GTA 6. The game is officially scheduled for November 19, 2026, on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while a PC version and its hardware requirements have not been officially announced.

That means every PC specification currently circulating online is an estimate, not an official Rockstar requirement. Nevertheless, the hardware inside the current-generation consoles, Rockstar's previous PC releases, and the expected technical complexity of GTA 6 provide enough information to establish reasonable targets for anyone planning a gaming PC.

Estimated GTA 6 PC Requirements

Component Minimum Recommended Ideal / High-End
Operating System Windows 10 64-bit Windows 11 64-bit Windows 11 64-bit
CPU Ryzen 5 3600 / Core i5-9600K Ryzen 7 5800X / Core i7-12700K Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Core i7-14700K or better
GPU RTX 3060 8GB / RX 6600 XT RTX 3080 / RX 6800 XT RTX 4070 Ti Super / RTX 4080 or better
RAM 16GB 32GB 32GB–64GB
Storage 150GB+ SSD 150GB+ NVMe SSD 200GB+ fast NVMe SSD
DirectX DirectX 12 DirectX 12 DirectX 12
Target 1080p Low, ~30 FPS 1080p/1440p High, ~60 FPS 1440p/4K High-Ultra, high FPS

These specifications are projections rather than official requirements. Different estimates currently circulating online vary considerably, particularly regarding the minimum graphics card. Some projections place the minimum around a GTX 1660/RX 5700, while others consider an RTX 3060-class GPU a more realistic baseline.

Minimum Requirements: The Entry Point

For players who simply want GTA 6 to run on their computer, a reasonable target would be a modern six-core processor, 16GB of RAM and a graphics card with approximately 8GB of VRAM.

A processor such as the AMD Ryzen 5 3600 or Intel Core i5-9600K represents a reasonable starting point. These CPUs are considerably more powerful than the processors found in many older gaming PCs, while still being relatively affordable on the used market.

For graphics, an NVIDIA RTX 3060 8GB or an equivalent AMD Radeon card is a safer target than older entry-level GPUs. Some estimates suggest that weaker cards could technically run the game, but that does not necessarily mean they would provide a comfortable experience.

16GB of RAM should also be considered the minimum sensible amount. GTA 6 is expected to deal with a huge open world containing detailed environments, vehicles, pedestrians, traffic, physics and constantly streamed assets. Having only 8GB could become a significant limitation.

An SSD is also strongly recommended, even if Rockstar ultimately allows installation on a traditional hard drive. GTA 6 will likely rely heavily on continuous data streaming, making fast storage particularly important for reducing loading and asset-streaming problems.

Recommended Requirements: The Sweet Spot

For someone building or upgrading a PC specifically for GTA 6, the recommended category makes much more sense.

A system with a Ryzen 7 5800X, Intel Core i7-12700K or a comparable modern processor, combined with 32GB of RAM, would provide considerably more headroom than a basic 16GB system.

For the graphics card, estimates commonly place the recommended level somewhere around an RTX 3080, RTX 4070 or AMD RX 6800 XT-class GPU. The exact card required will depend heavily on Rockstar's eventual optimization and the graphics settings available in the PC version.

This type of machine should be considered the target for players who want to play at 1080p or 1440p with high graphical settings, rather than simply making the game start.

The recommended configuration should also include a fast NVMe SSD. Storage speed has become increasingly important in modern open-world games, where enormous quantities of textures, geometry and environmental data must be loaded while the player moves through the world.

Ideal Requirements: For Players Who Want Everything

If the goal is to play GTA 6 with the best possible image quality and enough performance headroom for future updates, a considerably stronger PC would be appropriate.

A high-end system could include a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Ryzen 9 9950X3D, Intel Core i7-14700K or a comparable modern processor, together with 32GB or even 64GB of RAM.

On the graphics side, an RTX 4070 Ti Super, RTX 4080, RTX 4080 Super, RTX 4090 or newer equivalent would provide considerably more headroom than the estimated minimum hardware.

This level of hardware becomes particularly interesting for players who want to experiment with 1440p or 4K resolution, high-quality shadows, advanced lighting, high population density and other demanding graphical options.

However, even a very expensive PC cannot guarantee a specific frame rate before the PC version actually exists. Optimization is ultimately just as important as raw hardware power.

How Much Storage Will GTA 6 Need?

The exact PC installation size has not been announced. Estimates generally place the game somewhere around 150GB or more, although the final number could be significantly different.

For that reason, purchasing an SSD with only 150GB of total capacity would be a bad idea. The operating system, applications, updates and other games also require space.

A 1TB NVMe SSD is therefore a much more sensible choice for a GTA 6 gaming machine. Players who maintain a large game library should consider a 2TB drive.

What About Ray Tracing?

Ray tracing could be another major factor.

GTA 6's console versions are being developed for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and Rockstar has demonstrated highly advanced lighting and visual effects in its promotional material. The PC version could potentially offer additional graphical options unavailable on consoles.

If advanced ray tracing becomes particularly demanding, NVIDIA RTX cards and comparable AMD hardware could have an advantage depending on Rockstar's implementation.

This is another reason why buying a graphics card with only the minimum amount of VRAM may not be the best long-term decision.

Should You Upgrade Your PC Now?

If GTA 6 is the main reason for an upgrade, waiting for Rockstar's official PC requirements is the safest decision.

Rockstar's current official GTA 6 information lists PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, but does not provide PC specifications.

Still, if you are building a PC today and want it to have a strong chance of handling GTA 6, a practical target would be 32GB of RAM, a modern 8-core CPU, an RTX 4070-class GPU or better, and a fast 1TB–2TB NVMe SSD.

That configuration should provide substantially more headroom than a basic gaming PC, although nobody can guarantee the exact GTA 6 performance until Rockstar officially reveals the PC version.

Final Verdict

The safest way to think about GTA 6 PC requirements right now is in three levels:

Minimum: 16GB RAM, a modern six-core CPU, RTX 3060/RX 6600 XT-class graphics and an SSD.

Recommended: 32GB RAM, a modern eight-core CPU, RTX 4070–3080/RX 6800 XT-class graphics and a fast NVMe SSD.

Ideal: 32GB–64GB RAM, a current high-end CPU, RTX 4070 Ti Super/4080-class or better graphics and a large NVMe SSD.

These numbers should not be mistaken for Rockstar's official specifications. They are practical estimates based on currently available information and the hardware requirements expected from a modern open-world title of GTA 6's scale. Until Rockstar publishes the actual PC requirements, any website claiming that its specification list is officially confirmed should be treated with caution.
