Grand Theft Auto VI has been hit by another major leak just months before its highly anticipated release, with an anonymous individual threatening to publish confidential material from the game before Rockstar Games is scheduled to launch it officially.
The situation adds another serious problem to an already turbulent period for Rockstar and Take-Two Interactive, the company that owns the studio. Grand Theft Auto VI is currently scheduled to arrive on November 19, 2026, meaning the latest threats have emerged roughly three months before players are expected to get their hands on the game.
According to Público, an anonymous user has been publishing confidential images and other material related to GTA VI while threatening Rockstar with the possibility of releasing more of the game ahead of its official launch. The publication reports that the situation has already had an impact on Take-Two's shares on the stock market.
A New Threat for Rockstar
The latest episode is particularly concerning because GTA VI is no ordinary video game. It is arguably the most anticipated entertainment release of the year, and Rockstar has spent years keeping information about the project tightly controlled.
The company has already experienced significant leaks during the game's development. The most infamous incident occurred in 2022, when a massive amount of unfinished GTA VI development footage was published online after an intrusion into Rockstar's systems.
The current situation is different in one important respect: the new material has appeared extremely close to the game's planned release.
The anonymous source has been associated with the name CyberLeek, which has been used to publish multiple pieces of material allegedly originating from GTA VI. The leaked content has included gameplay footage and images that appear to show a much more advanced version of the game than the material exposed during the 2022 incident.
Several reports have suggested that the person or group behind the leaks may have access to a playable development build. However, the exact identity of the source remains unknown.
