According to a new report from market analytics firm Newzoo, GTA 6 generated an estimated $260 million in global digital pre-orders during its very first week of availability. The firm tracked roughly $180 million in the US and five major European markets, then extrapolated worldwide demand using historical GTA V player data to arrive at that figure.
To put that in context: the game isn't out until November 19, 2026. Pre-orders only opened on June 25. That's $260 million in less than a month, before a single copy has shipped.
What the analysts are actually projecting
Newzoo places GTA 6 squarely in what it calls the "proven sequel" model — a franchise so established that fans lock in early, long before launch hype peaks. Based on that pattern, the firm estimates the game could move between 37 and 51 million copies in its first week alone, translating to launch-week revenue somewhere between $3.25 billion and $5.2 billion.
For reference, GTA V generated $1 billion in its first three days back in 2013. That was considered historic. GTA 6 is on pace to do that before lunch on day one.
The report also pushes back on viral social media claims that the game had already crossed $1 billion in pre-orders. Those numbers are inflated. The bulk of pre-order revenue, Newzoo notes, will arrive much closer to the November release window — meaning the real surge hasn't even started yet.
None of this seems to have been slowed down by the $79.99 price tag, either. GTA 6 is the most expensive console game launch in the franchise's history, breaking the $70 ceiling that's been the industry standard since 2020. The $100 Ultimate Edition — which includes exclusive vehicles, weapons, and outfits for both Jason and Lucia — has also been moving steadily.
The numbers make one thing clear: whatever Rockstar has been building for the past decade, the world is ready to pay for it.
